Legislation extending the freedom to marry to same-sex couples was signed into law by former President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner. The law was published in the official gazette on 22 July 2010 and took effect that same day. The law grants same-sex couples all the rights and responsibilities of marriage, including the right to adopt children.
