Uruguay

Same-sex couples have been able to marry in Uruguay since August 2013. Civil marriage was passed legislatively, with the Chamber of Representatives approving a bill in December 2012 and the Senate approving it in April 2013.

Previously, Uruguay was the first country in Latin America that allowed same-sex couples to unite in civil union, following a legislatively-approved bill in 2008.
