  • Same-sex couples in Ecuador have been able to marry since July 8, 2019.

    On June 13, 2019, the Constitutional Court of Ecuador ruled that Ecuador’s ban on marriage for same-sex couples was unconstitutional, becoming the first country to implement the Inter-American Court of Human Rights advisory opinion.

    Ecuador Constitutional Court Ruling on Civil Marriage for Same-Sex Couples

    On June 13, 2019, the Constitutional Court of Ecuador ruled that Ecuador’s ban on marriage for same-sex couples was unconstitutional, becoming the first country to implement the Inter-American Court of Human Rights advisory opinion. Same-sex couples began legally marrying on July 9, 2019.
